Hey, guys!

Affirmative: verb in the present

I work on weekdays.

Negative: DON’T + VERB

I don’t work on Sundays.

Question: DO + SUBJECT + VERB

Do you work on Saturdays?

Short Answers

Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.

Existe uma regrinha especial para a terceira pessoa do singular (he, she, it):

Affirmative: verb in the present + s/es/ies

She works on weekdays.

Negative: DOESN’T + VERB

She doesn’t work on Sundays.

Question: DOES + SUBJECT + VERB

Does she work on Saturdays?

Short Answers

Yes, she does. / No, she doesn’t.

Nas frases afirmativas com HE, SHE, IT, você deve lembrar de acrescentar –S, -ES ou -IES nos verbos. Seguem as regrinhas para não confundir:

  • Verbos terminados em (S, CH, SH, X, Z, S, O), recebem –ES:

I go – She goes / You brush – He brushes / We kiss – He kisses

  • Verbos terminados em (consoante + Y), trocam o Y por –IES:

I cry – She cries / They try – He tries

  • O verbo HAVE muda para HAS:

I have a dog. / She has a cat.

  • Para todos os outros verbos, basta acrescentar –S:

I like – She likes / You work – He works / We drink – It drinks

Alguns advérbios e expressões normalmente usados com o Simple Present:

  • always
  • usually / normally / often
  • sometimes
  • rarely / hardly ever / seldom
  • never
  • every Monday/week/etc
  • each Monday/week/etc
  • once a week/month/year
  • twice a week/month/year
  • three times a week/month/year

Lembre-se que os advérbios devem ser colocados sempre antes dos verbos ou após o verbo to be:

I often play soccer with my friends.

I am often late for class.

O advérbio SOMETIMES é especial e pode vir antes dos verbos, no início ou no fim das frases:

Sometimes I watch TV at night.

I sometimes watch TV at night.

I watch TV at night sometimes.
